How Best to Display Deviations

A graph works best when the message is concerned with the shape of the data such as

            1) patterns
            2) trends
            3) co-relationships and
            4) exceptions or outliers

A clue when to use graphs is that meaningful information always involves relationships and these usually boil
down to one of seven types

          1) Ranking
          2) Deviation
          3) Correlation
          4) Time Series
          5) Part to Whole
          6) Distribution
          7) Nominal Comparison
